Step by step guide to making a TwentyTen child theme

This tutorial will take you through the steps required to create a child theme of Twenty Ten. At the time of writing we used version 1.3 of Twenty Ten and WordPress 3.3.1. You may preview the child theme demo and download the zip files. (Reviewed Nov 6, 2012, with version 1.4 of Twenty Ten and WordPress 3.4.2)

In order for you to follow along, you’ll need to set up the following:

1. Install a new copy of WordPress on your server
2. Install and activate the Twenty Ten theme
3. Download and import a copy of WordPress test unit data
4. Re-organize your pages so that there is only one row of links in your navigation bar
5. Set up widgets for all available areas
